Our catching instructor, Andy Martinez, brings collegiate playing experience and a deep understanding of the game's most demanding position. Specializing in receiving, blocking, throwing mechanics, game management, and leadership behind the plate, he helps catchers develop the skills and confidence needed to control the game. His player-focused approach prepares athletes to excel defensively while becoming trusted leaders on the field.
EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND
Andy Martinez brings more than eight years of collegiate coaching experience and is widely respected for his work in catcher development and offensive strategy. Currently serving at Rio Hondo College, Martinez oversees the catching program and coordinates the team’s offensive approach, helping student-athletes maximize their performance both behind the plate and in the batter’s box. Throughout his coaching career, Martinez has developed numerous high-level catchers, including rising MLB prospect Rafael Flores of the Pittsburgh Pirates. His ability to teach receiving, blocking, throwing, game management, and leadership has made him one of the most respected catching instructors in the region. In addition to his collegiate coaching success, Martinez served as a lead instructor for the nationally recognized Next Level Catching program. As a player, he spent four years competing at University of La Verne, where he developed the foundation for his passion for coaching and player development. His experience, knowledge, and commitment continue to positively impact catchers at every level of the game.
